Unit 7 · Grades 3–8 · 4 lessons
AI Explorers
📘 Teacher Guide
Unit overview
Students discover what artificial intelligence is and isn't, find AI in everyday life, and learn how AI learns patterns from training data. They train KELO themselves, see how AI can be fooled, and learn to use chatbots safely, honestly and wisely.
Big ideas
- AI learns patterns from lots of examples (training data).
- AI is not alive and can be wrong.
- Fair, varied training data matters.
- Never share personal information with a chatbot; check facts and be honest about AI use.
Before you teach
- Create a free class at keloskillracer.com/teacher and print the student code cards.
- Test one activity on a classroom computer before the lesson (sound on or off, screen size).
- Show students how to sign in at /join with the class code and their student code.
- Review your school's policy on student use of AI tools.
Pacing
4 lessons of 40–45 minutes.
Teaching tips
- Discuss: 'Was KELO wrong because KELO is bad, or because of the examples it learned from?'
- Invite students to share where they've seen AI at home.
